San Francisco’s Ulster Gaelic Football Club Makes Headlines in Gaelic Life
Gaelic Life, Ulster’s GAA newspaper has featured our own Ulster Gaelic Football Club in an article that shines a light on the club’s resilience, growth, and passion. The article centers on club chairman and SFGAA board member Barry Dowds and the journey the club has taken—nearly folding during the COVID-19 pandemic to fielding two teams and competing for a North American title.

A small group of dedicated club members refused to let the club go under. They kept the spirit alive during uncertain times and laid the foundation for a stronger, more self-sustaining future. Today, Ulster GFC boasts a solid base homegrown talent including second-generation players and Irish-American youth who come up through the ranks.
The piece also highlights the improvements at our home pitch, Páirc na nGael, the success of this season’s home-based competition, and a memorable visit from GAA President Jarlath Burns.
